DR. RAMAKRISHNAPPA

Dr. Ramakrishnappa retired as Additional Director, Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Karnataka, India in 2014. He is a post graduate and a PhD Scholar in Seed Science and Technology from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, India.

He has presented papers at International Forums like FAO in Rome, Common Wealth Award Conference in Barbados and International Delegates Meet in Bhutan.

A big visionary and a strong believer in chemical free agriculture, Dr. Ramakrishnappa started promoting sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices when he was the head of the Bio center, Hulimavu, Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Karnataka in 2002. As a member of the team, responsible for drafting Karnataka state policy on organic farming, the first of its kind in 2004, he advocated multidisciplinary approach in farming comprising agriculture, horticulture, animal farming, dairy, fisheries, poultry, tree farming, sericulture etc.

He established Jaivik Krishik society in 2004 to popularize organic farming through knowledge sharing and assisting farmers on a continuously. He then established the Belavala Foundation, a public charitable trust. The foundation provides education and learning opportunities involving ecological farming practices to all sections of the society.

To make organic farming more transparent and sustainable, Dr. Ramakrishnappa advises direct interaction of the entire organic community with nature through the Eco-Agri-Tourism.
